Dr Ian Young

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

As a dental graduate of the University of Queensland, Ian worked for a short period in private practice before pursuing Rugby League while living in the south of France. He then played Rugby Union for the London Irish Club for 4 years.

Ian continued his dental career in England before entering a Masters program in Oral Surgery at the Eastman Dental Hospital in London. Upon completion of his postgraduate degree, and after obtaining a Fellowship from The College of Surgeons in Ireland, Ian completed a further 18 months of training at The Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.

Ian returned to Australia in 1991 to complete two years Senior Registrar training in Adelaide, only to then undertake a Medical Degree at the University of Adelaide. After graduating with his Medical Degree, he returned to Queensland to live on the Sunshine Coast, where he completed his medical internship and established MIC — the first Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialist practice on the Sunshine Coast.

Ian’s special interests in his field include Orthognathic Surgery; and he offers 30 years of experience in placing dental implants. He also has an interest in Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery; travelling to the Philippines and China as a Volunteer Surgeon to help less privileged children.
